Pastor's Pen
From the desk of
Pastor Paul
“Wow, where did this day go,” we so often sigh to ourselves? “Man, that was a busy day,” we quip. Who isn’t busy these days? Let’s examine ourselves and make sure that our busyness isn’t somewhat self-inflicted. Let’s take a moment to uncloak our busy lives and examine ourselves through the words of Henri J M Nouwen. Nouwen said in Bring Prayer into Your Life With Open Hands, “Noise from the outside keeps demanding our attention, and restlessness from within keeps stirring up anxiety.” He goes on “It makes you wonder whether the diversion we look for in the many things outside of us might not really be an attempt to avoid confrontation with what is inside. What should I begin when I’m through with all my work? This question leads many people to flee from themselves and hold fast to any number of things which make them feel very busy.”
A great prayer for examination today is Lord is there anything you are speaking to me about, that I am avoiding through my constant busyness? Is my busyness keeping me from going deeper in you?
It is a privilege to bring the final message (for now) in the series Renewed Mind – Restful Soul this weekend. This week we will teach “Putting Taskmasters in the Rearview Mirror.”
