Pastor's Pen

From the desk of

Pastor Paul

"On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, 'Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.'" - John 7:37-38

There's a profound difference between a pool and a river. A pool contains water but doesn't flow. Without circulation, it becomes stagnant, requiring chemicals to stay clean. A river, however, constantly flows, bringing life wherever it goes. Many churches function like pools—contained, controlled environments focused on maintaining what they have rather than flowing outward. They become concerned with comfort, tradition, and keeping things just as they are. But Jesus never called us to be pools—He called us to be rivers of living water. In Ezekiel's vision, water flowed from the temple, starting as a trickle and becoming a mighty river that brought life everywhere it went. Trees grew along its banks, and the Dead Sea became fresh. This is God's vision for His church—not a stagnant pool but a life-giving river that transforms everything it touches. Becoming a river means allowing God's love to flow through us to others. It means being more concerned with reaching the lost than maintaining our comfort. It means embracing the messiness of ministry, knowing that bringing new people in will disrupt our neat systems and comfortable routines.

Prayer: Lord, we don't want to be a stagnant pool. Transform us into a river of Your living water. Help us care more about reaching others than our own comfort. Break down any dams of fear, selfishness, or apathy that prevent Your love from flowing through us. Amen.
