The gift was more than generosity. In one of the behind-the-scenes conversations, our friend remarked, “God has blessed us so much. We have learned that you just can’t outgive God.”

There are so many passages that speak about the power of generosity. Here are a few examples:

Deuteronomy 15:7–8: If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. Rather, be open-handed and freely lend them whatever they need.
Proverbs 11:24–25: One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
2 Corinthians 9:7: Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

We are not to test God, except in this one area (see Malachi 3:10).

I love the word cheerful. In the Greek language it is the word hilarios—and as you can guess, it’s where we get the word hilarious. I am expecting that in the days ahead there will be some hilarious celebrations. I know, for one, I want to be a part of such celebration. God is so good, and no, you can’t outgive Him.
