Pastor’s Pen
Paul uses an interesting expression in Ephesians 1:18-19; he prays that the eyes of our heart might be enlightened. Here is the whole passage: I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.
There is more to seeing than with our natural eyes, there is a spiritual sight God would have us develop….the eyes of our heart. Just as Elisha asked the Lord to open his servant’s eyes in 2 Kings 6:17 (And the Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha), I am asking the Lord to open my eyes to what He has planned for us at Grace. I am asking Him to open my eyes and yours to see the vision of unlimited possibilities for ministry here and around the world. To see children and students trained and young men and women sent out. To open our eyes that this moment must not be about us, but about what He has planned for the next generations.
Let’s believe God to help us with the eyes of our hearts so that we can develop the spiritual visual acuity to see what the Lord sees.
We sometimes sing Brandon Heath’s great song, Give Me Your Eyes– it is a good prayer.
Give me your eyes for just one second Give me your eyes so I can see, Everything that I keep missing, Give your love for humanity. Give me your arms for the broken-hearted The ones that are far beyond my reach. Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten. Give me Your eyes so I can see.
Excited to see you this weekend!
