Grace Happenings | December 6, 2023

Pastor’s Pen

One of my favorite passages of Scripture is John 20:19-22

19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After He said this, He showed them His hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

Their fear was keeping them locked away. Fear always keeps us locked up or locked away in some fashion.  Not only are they locked away, the message and the people who need to hear the message of the Gospel and of the glorious resurrection are locked out.

To this group of locked in and locked up disciples Jesus breathed on them and sent them out, in spite of their fear, to unlock the Kingdom of heaven on earth.

This Christmas season He calls us to not be locked up by the fear of man, but to boldly unlock the Good News of the Kingdom of God.

Can’t wait to see you in all of your plaids this weekend.
