Grace Happenings | August 25

Pastor’s Pen

I have recently been meditating on Isaiah 50:4 The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.  Isaiah indicates that a well-instructed tongue brings sustenance and comfort to the weary.  How different a well-instructed tongue compared to the untamed tongue that James speaks of in James 3.  James indicates that an untrained, unrestrained tongue is like a spark that can set a whole forest ablaze.

So how can I have a well-instructed tongue, one that speaks life and comfort?  A few chapters before, (Isaiah 6) as Isaiah was having a worship experience and confessed he was a man of unclean lips and lives among a people of unclean lips. God cleansed his lips, his tongue!  This touch of God on Isaiah was so complete that he could say, The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue.

Isaiah also indicates a key to a well-instructed tongue is to awaken morning by morning and receive instruction from God.  As we wait on God and pray in the quiet place of our lives, a great prayer to pray is; “God teach me to use my tongue in the right ways and help me keep watch of the words I say.”

Excited to share the word with you this coming weekend! See you then.

Relocation/Building Fund

At the end of July, our building fund balance was $308,032. This is a great time for us to start thinking about the building fund in our giving. You can give online or by marking an offering envelope as Building Fund.

One of the best hikes around, takes you to both Sherd Lake and Long Lake,  in the Big Horn Wilderness Area, and it’s a pretty underrated trek.  It starts at the Circle Park Trailhead approximately 15 miles from Buffalo.  Trail #46 starts out wide and rocky with an elevation gain of 550 feet in 1.8 miles to Sherd Lake.  We will take a short break at this beautiful lake and then continue on Trail #47 to Long Lake.  Long Lake is 1.2 miles from Sherd Lake with an elevation gain of 320 feet.  It is an amazing hike with stream crossings, old-growth forests, and stunning views.  We will be having late lunch at Long Lake.  This is a  BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH.

The entire trip is 6 miles and we will be meeting right after church on Sunday.  We will leave at approximately 11:30 from the church and should arrive back at the church between 6 and 7 in the evening.  Come and spend time in the Big Horn Mountains developing and deepening your relationships with your Christian Brothers and Sisters.
